Kens pancake house is a fixture on the Big Island. Someone should order the Sumo! It’s a riot when they ring the gong, and everyone yells sumo! At kens its all about the experience.

9:30 am to 4:00 pm Explore the Volcano National Park

We will spend the day exploring Pele’s creations from Pohoiki to the Volcano National Park. The 2018 eruption destroyed 700 homes and created miles of new land to include a few black sand beaches. This lava flowed underground from Halemaumau crater to the subdivision of Lelani. Halemaumau filled with lava and all of a sudden emptied, where it went no one knew at first. Then it became apparent that it was headed to the neighborhood. Within 24 hours of the first lava fissure opened up in the middle of the road halfway down Leilani Estates. Today the same source of Laval has filled Halemaumau Crater and has put on displays of fire with 1000 foot fountaining lava. If we are lucky, the lava will be going off.

At the volcano National Park, depending on conditions, we will hike Kilauea Iki. We will check with park officials before hiking. Kilauea Iki is a four miles hike that skirts the edge of the crater then continues through the center. Total elevation gains and loss is 800 feet. It is a solid hike! You will need to bring your hiking packs and water.

We will find and area to picnic in the park followed by a round of bowling. It isn’t everyday that you can say you bowled on top of a volcano! Hands down the reddest place to bowl. We will play at least one round before heading back to Hilo.

4:00 pm to 7:00 Dinner and Pre for Hilo night Life

Let’s get ready to go out in Hilo. For dinner we will have salmon and vegetables. Let’s go check out Hilo’s underground nightlife. We have a few hip bars right in Hilo town to include a speak easy.
